bio innovation park Rhineland

Climate protection and green urban development have already been introduced into a number of projects run by the Bonn Science Shop. The "bio innovation park Rhineland" is focusing on these aspects, too. The aim of the project is to establish a climate-neutral Science and Business Park between the cities of Meckenheim and Rheinbach.

A central aspect here is the use of bioenergy potentials of the regions’ fruit and horticulture. The project is led by the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn. The Bonn Science Shop is responsible for organizing the exchange between experts and citizens within the framework of the project.

On Site Climate protection

The project actively involves citizens as key players in climate protection. WILA Bonn informs about events and created an internet presentation about how citizens can contribute to climate protection. In addition, WILA Bonn organizes workshops in which researchers can exchange information about the possibilities of the regional use of the biomass potentials e.g. from clearing timber. By the end of 2017, the energy-efficient science and business park will be established, which is unique as a bio-innovation competence and presentation space in Germany. The process is accompanied by inter-community, spatial planning activities.

Apart from the municipalities of Rheinbach and Meckenheim, the project also includes University of Applied Sciences Bonn / Rhein-Sieg as well as resident companies that have joined forces in a network. The project is funded by the participating municipalities and grants from the Federal Ministry of the Environment.
